Questions to be addressed

  • What are the opportunities afforded by current and future genomics data?
  • How do we utilize data from model species such as Arabidopsis?
  • What are strong and/or special attributes of the Compositae?
  • What are the (unique) research opportunities for the Compositae?
  • What is currently limiting research on the Compositae?
  • How do we address these limitations?
  • What resources are needed?
  • What are the short, medium and long-term priorities?
  • How do we establish benchmarks and metrics for progress towards meeting these priorities?
  • How do we communicate effectively between Compositae researchers?
  • How do we coordinate research across diverse Compositae species?
  • Should we form a formal steering committee?
  • What database resources are needed?
  • How do we develop controlled vocabularies to facilitate searches across databases?
  • How and when should we sequence which Compositae species?
  • Should we focus on crop and weedy species or should there be a major effort to develop a small-genome model for the Compositae?
  • What are the funding opportunities for the Compositae?
  • Who are the stakeholders and what is their political influence?
  • Who are the key people to be kept informed of research on the Compositae?
  • What are the opportunities relative to the new funding initiatives being directed to bioenergy?
  • What additions need to be made to the draft of the white paper and by who?

These questions and others suggested by meeting participants will be the basis of an on-line questionnaire after the meeting. This information will be used to redraft the whitepaper.
