GenoPlayer OverviewGenome analysis based on molecular markers can generate large amount of information. A graphical display and visualization of the data provides a powerful overview of information and can simplify interpretation. We developed a JAVA software package, GenoPlayer, for visualizing and querying genetic linkage data. The program displays chromosomal genotypes of individuals based on molecular marker data. GenoPlayer can be used to select informative markers, to identify the most useful individuals in a segregating population, to detect segregation distortion, and to detect errors in the data. GenoPlayer program is platform-independent, can be downloaded as standalone application and also is accessible via the web. The program can be used downstream of other analytical and mapping tools such as MapPop.
Features: The program accepts map and segregation data in plain text or JoinMap output format to generate colored drawings of each chromosome and summary statistics.
GenoPlayer program can display data by: Linkage group Individual Subset of individuals All individuals and all linkage groups.
- Statistics on the genome composition for all the above options.
- Double clicking on any locus shows information about the selected locus, neighboring loci and map position.
- View display using zoom from 1 to 10.
- User can define the color-coding for each genotype
The program allows queries to display individuals selected on their genotypic composition expressed as proportions of parental alleles.
The program identifies recombination cross-over points in individuals, summarizes their distribution in the mapping population or selected subsets of individuals and displays summary statistics of cross-overs.
Images can be printed or captured by any screenshot program and incorporated into web pages.
The source code is freely available and minimal code modifications can add new features to the program.
